carkart_ Of course it’s everyone’s favorite track, why else? Because it just sounds like the best thing ever. This song and the entire album feels like a whole different world, something I’d like to stay in for a while. The guitars the instrumental the vocals, everything comes together and it forms this album it’s honestly the best thing I’ve heard. Favorite track: It's Late.

colslaw Cola is so good. I always come back to the album to ground my life. Full of gloriously complex and reverberating tracks, it's hard to pick a favourite. I adore the build ups that cut to complete sonic and emotional clarity throughout the album.
Incredible stuff! Favorite track: Glue.

johnbogeman2 I absolutely love music that cannot be placed in one category. This album is a range of emotions, told in many different ways. It's like a roller coaster but one where you're in a recliner. Favorite track: It's Late.

Algernon 04:13
day of turns unread love callow and light out of reach i had no idea everything that tends to happen in between stay close while it's easy you'll stay close to them late it pours gently out lined pools unrequited and unaired desperate to decide swayed when it aligns stalled it seems enough until you get caught up desperate and outright sway when it aligns not what you dreamed of not yet oh love stay and get caught up

deserve the rush that lingers long enough you do no harm but this suddenness sweeps in catches my breath "nothing's the same as anything else" i can't confess at least not yet inconsolable mess time to make eyes longing aches fade in time and echoes do no harm tenses combine odds slip you fuzz the signs "nothing's the same as anything else" you don't expect at least not yet illegible death "nothing's meant to be"

Cut Thru 03:45
drawn in low light borne faint held, it starts to flood in the same color I know there’re others Old wind ever lifting Taillights always swerving Cracked but holding water, Blue and held together I can hear you 'cause that’s what you do you cut thru I can hear you yeah you cut thru take me to the fault line tell me we're fine nothing is breaking it’s just rubbing and shaking what's left to do? you cut thru i can hear you I can hear you I can hear you I can hear you
7.
Hum 01:38

soft edge shapeless fade to black let the range elate trust that you'll be ok cave-like, airtight lucid dream desire turned hollow fever turned dear make do decade come loose, can’t wait the space in the seams starts to grow helps you keep separate from the rest of it the pace that you need drags the heart that you keep you move like moonlight trapped beneath a cruel shade they wait to see you crushed beneath a sown wave no I won't fall apart whenever the sea starts its holy endeavor slow life with blue ink bleeding in transit coat tallied-on pressing down feel you gone list truer loves met alone I hear you leaving
11.
Ash 03:52
could there be another way to think of all of this trying to make it it's good to have a tether it's good to coexist could there be a better way to think of all of this trying to make it fit it's good to feel your tether it's good to coexist don't even bother trying to shake it loose stuck to the bottom won't be forever nothing will i'm telling you we'll be together

Cola, is the full-length debut from Brooklyn multi-instrumentalist Patrick J Smith, whose previous credits include playing with Modern Rivals, BLUFFING and Fiasco. Having spent the last year working on a new project called Maxband with Max from Parquet Courts, A Beacon School marks Smith’s first entirely solo effort, allowing him to indulge his every musical impulse.

"Smith adds layers of soothing guitars and vocals with ease, reaching a build-up that feels natural, without ever fully peaking." - The Fader

KCRW Music Director/Morning Becomes Eclectic host Jason Bentley:

“Like all the best music, my interest has been based on intuition mostly. The lyrical guitars, rhythmic patterns, and hushed vocals are well arranged and composed. Definitely in my wheelhouse.”

Lead single, "Algernon" was included on HypeM's Stack No. 179 featuring a curated selection of the week's most interesting tracks.
